Project: R.V. Welch Student Activity Center

R.V. Welch Student Activity Center Description: Ter Horst, Lamson & Fisk, Inc. provided structural engineering design services for a new student activity center for Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The project consisted of renovation of existing space and construction of a new 26,700 s.f., two story structure containing basketball courts, lobby area, concession areas, locker rooms, weight room, office space and support facilities for the teaching staff.

  • Partial two-story steel framed structure.
  • Structural frame utilizing 142' long span steel trusses across the gymnasium.
  • Due to the variable site conditions the foundation was designed as a hybrid spread footing and drilled caisson deep foundation system.
  • Building utilizes pre-cast concrete exterior wall panels
  • The facility opened in 1997.
